Common questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Longhand Free gives you access to local LLMs and your own API keys. Cloud providers receive the task context you send to them. No account, no credit card, no trial expiration.

Is my data private?

Longhand keeps personal credentials in an encrypted local vault. Cloud AI receives task context, and account and team features use hosted services. See our Privacy Policy for Google permissions, sharing, retention, and deletion.

What are the system requirements?

macOS 13+ (Apple Silicon or Intel) or Windows 10+. Around 10 GB disk space for the bundled local AI model.

Why can't I install the browser extension?

The Longhand Agent extension is published on the Chrome Web Store in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico only while it is in early release. From other countries the store shows "This item is not available" — nothing is broken, the listing just isn't distributed there yet. Email todd@getlonghand.com with your country and we'll add it. The desktop app itself works everywhere.

Do I need an API key?

No. Longhand bundles a local AI model that works fully offline. You can optionally add your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini keys for more powerful models.
